18 Months

Lawson had his 18 month check up two weeks ago (I'm behind...sorry). It's crazy to me to think this little guy is already 18 months old! Dr. Jon says Lawson is a very healthy, happy and verbal little guy. Based on his height, he is taller than 2 out of 3 boys his age.

When he was born, he weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces and was 21 inches long. My how he has grown.

At the doctor's office.

"Uh-oh, baby," says Lawson when he hears a baby crying down the hall. He always seems to be very concerned when another child is upset or hurt or even drops something. Such a sweet boy!

I feel like there is a ton of stuff to say about this little guy and what he's up to. I've been working on this post for a while trying to get everything down, but I'm sure I will leave something out. Either way, here's a little update on our boy along with some of my favorite picks from the past month or so.

Vocabulary: Lawson is a talker. He can't help it really. I tend to be a little wordy, and if you can imagine, my mom is even worse. Since Lawson spends most of this days with Nanna, he comes by it honestly. Here's a summary of what he's saying these days (sorry if some of these are repeats from a previous post):
  • Gosh you, Momma (or Daddy or whoever) = God bless you, ______. He says this any time someone sneezes or coughs. Such a sweetie.
  • I fix it.
  • I pick up.
  • I putting it up. (Said when he's putting something up instead of doing what you're asking him to do)
  • I did that or I do that.
  • Messy mess. (Said when someone else, even someone on TV or in a book, makes a mess as well as when he makes a mess or gets dirty) Sometimes it's, "Oh no, Momma. Messy mess, balls. I pick up." all together.
  •  "Sank you, ________" = Thank you, _______.
  • "Here go, _________." = Here you go, _______.
  • Oops.
  • "Show me, Momma." = Let me show you something, Momma.
  • Hold hand. = Said when he wants to walk but still wants you close, so he wants to hold hands. Pretty much every time we go out to play in the yard he will say, "Hold hand. Walking, Momma (or Daddy or whoever). This is one of my very favorite things.
  • I climb. or I climbing. He is doing A LOT of climbing these days.
  • Pee-pee Potty.  We aren't really potty training yet, but he is figuring out how stuff works.
  • "Big no-no." This usually refers to something he has been in trouble for a lot. Funny how he knows which things are no-no but continues to do it.
  • "Get up."  = Get up off the floor/couch/chair and come do what I want you to do. He will then pull on your hand or shirt and grunt trying to pull you up.
  • "Come on." = I'm ready. What's taking you so long. Let's go.
  • "Daddy (or Momma or whoever), back a minute." = The person has left the room or even the house, but will be back. He has picked this up from me I think.
He has also started saying his name A LOT and claiming things that are his: Lawson's cup or my cup. Lawson's hat or my hat. He also repeats things we say to him such as, "Good job, Lawson." or "Good shot, Lawson." after he completes a task. He's too funny.

Animals Lawson can say and identify:
  • Cow, Cat, Dog, Chicken ("Chichen"), Elephant ("Eh-fant"), Wolf, Monkey, Sheep, Bird, Goose, Owl ("who-who"), Deer, Giraffe, Bear, Lion ("Roar").
Parts of the Body Lawson can say and identify:
  • Eyes, ears, nose, mouth, tongue, teeth ("teef"), eye lashes ("eye glasses"), toes, feet, leg ("yeg"), arm, shoulders ("shoulders"), knee, hiny, wee-wee, neck, face, head
Fun Facts:
  • Drinks from a water bottle on his own
  • Likes to spin and spin and spin in circles then stop, stand still for a minute, and spin and spin and spin the other way and say, "I dizzy." Sometimes he will do this for a minute and then come get me by the hand and say, "Momma, dizzy."
  • Laughs out loud at something funny on TV. This first happened while watching Murray and his Little Lamb on Sesame Street. Murray asks the little lamb to smell the pepper (they are at cooking school), and the lamb sneezes, which blows Murray down. It's pretty funny. :-)
  • Pretend sneezes (because he saw the little lamb do it on Sesame Street)
  • Has ALL FOUR of his first molars coming in. This has been going on for a few months now.
  • Has seven other teeth.
  • Has started to make associations between people and their family members and/or people and their pets. My mom's dog's name is Pistol Pete, so when we pull up at her house he starts calling for Nanna and Pitol (he leaves the s sound out). Knows that when we talk about Auntie Steffy's house, Addison is there too and so is the cat (which he calls Meow). Knows that when we talk about going to Grandpa's, Gigi should be there too. Knows that "Jemin" or "G" (he calls Jevin one or the other but hasn't settled on one) goes with Tina (my middle sister).

  • I just know I'm leaving something out, but I can't drag out writing this post any longer (I've been adding to it for two weeks now...jeez!) Needless to say our little boy is growing up fast! He is doing and saying new things every day, so I just can't keep up. Two weeks ago I put Lawson on a waiting list for a preschool in Greenwood. It was bittersweet. I know he's ready for more interaction with other kids and other people in general, but I feel like this is a huge step. When the call comes that a spot has opened up, we'll see how I feel. I fear I may cry.
