After some discussion about whether we should even go to the zoo or not after our crazy/stressful visit at the aquarium, we decided to give it a try. We were already in Tulsa for goodness sake. Lawson slept between the aquarium and the zoo, so we had a little time to take a few deep breaths on the way.
Headed in to the zoo. Not looking super excited, but that's probably because he just woke up.
The stroller was our friend at the zoo. Lawson actually did VERY well riding in the stroller most of the time.
Chimps. Lawson pointed and said, "eat." He always points out when someone or something is eating.
You can't really tell in this picture, but that's a big ole grizzle bear swimming on it's back.
Lawson was amazed by all the turtles and fish and ducks and geese that came up to use when we walked to the side of the water. It was crazy how many there were. Lawson had a starring contest with a goose while we were watching the fish and turtles. I kid you not, a goose walked up and stood less than a foot from Lawson (who was in his stroller). They just looked at each other. Lawson didn't cry or try to grab it (and it was close enough that he could have), and the goose didn't make a sound or blink or try to get Lawson (I was standing by ready to take the thing down if it tried.) Jason and I were so amazed at what was happening that neither of us moved to get out phones and take a picture. We just stood and watched. It was hilarious!!
Prairie dog.
The Lion. When the lion came walking out where we could see him, I said, "Look Lawson a lion!" Lawson looked up at it, waived and said, "Hi." Sort of like it was no big deal. Haha! When I showed him this picture, he pointed to it and said, "Hi dog." Silly kid.
We love this picture! The zoo was closing when we left (OK, maybe it was past closing time, but I might have forgotten to look at the sign when we came in. Whatever.), so when Lawson said, "Walk. Walk. Walk." We let him do just that. He walked pretty much from the "gaffs" (giraffes) to the car. He stopped at every bench and said, "churs" (chair), and every once and a while he would point to the stroller and say, "help." so we would hold him up for a minute and let him help push the stroller. I love that it was closing time and not even a little bit busy, so he could stretch his legs.
Such a big boy.
We had a great time at the zoo. It will be fun to take Lawson back in years to come and see how differently he responds to the animals.
On the way home from the zoo, we tried to stop and have dinner, but Lawson just wanted to get down and run. Not exactly ideal for a sit-down restaurant. SO, we went through the Burger King drive through and Jason sat in the back all the way home so he could give Lawson his dinner.
I sure do love spending time with these two boys. As you can see from this last picture, Lawson had fun on our day trip to Tulsa.
